Assignments on Freshwater Histories

Overview

Assignments and activities are organized by course offering. We provide a short narrative with each one to explain our pedagogical goals, hopes, and lessons learned to help educators best adapt these for their own purposes.

Inquiry Kit, Celeste Sharpe
This project has 3 major components which take place over 2 weeks about midway through the semester: Project Pitch, Peer Feedback on Pitches, and the Final Draft.

I designed this project to help prep students for their culminating research project. It also addresses a persistent student request for models and examples to guide their learning. The inquiry kit model allows students to practice formulating the key building blocks of an historic research project: guiding questions, finding credible sources, citing those sources appropriately, and describing how those sources relate to the research questions.
